Best smartwatch deals for Black Friday 2021: What discounts can you expect?

The Black Friday sales are approaching and although we're still some way off, there's plenty of anticipation - especially in the bouyant smartwatch market, where plenty of people are keen to buy a watch to integrate with their phone, support their fitness goals or just to look good.

Black Friday will fall on 26 November in 2021 and will be followed by Cyber Monday on 29 November. While there will be plenty of discounts during this period, the sales will begin a couple of weeks before, so keep your eye on prices from about mid-November onwards.

What to look for in a smartwatch

You might know exactly what you want from a smartwatch and you might not. It's worth looking at your options and knowing what's out there before you buy, just to ensure you get the watch that does what you want. Apple Watch is the most popular smartwatch, working only with the iPhone, it makes an ideal pairing - if you want an Apple Watch, then just jump to the deals below. 

For those on Android, you have lots of options from WearOS devices with brands like Fossil proving popular, but with great experiences from Samsung and Huawei too. These devices work closely with your phone, Samsung being one of the most popular choices. Watch out for older devices on WearOS which might not upgrade to WearOS 3.

But there's a lot of smartwatches out there if you're interested in fitness. Brands like Fitbit and Garmin offer a more refreshing approach to fitness tracking and longer battery life, but won't always integrate as closely with your smartphone as an Apple Watch or WearOS device. 

What smartwatch deals will we see?

Watch deals normally come across the range and normally it's older devices that get the biggest discounts. Deals on older Apple Watch versions - including models that Apple no longer stocks (but still supports) like Watch 5 or Watch 6 - as well as those Watch 3 models. 

For other brands, there's often a lot that gets discounted. Brands like Fitbit, Garmin and Polar, support their devices for a long time and with features not changing hugely, buying a slightly older watch in the sales can give you everything you want without paying top price for the latest models. 

For WearOS devices, a lot of brands will discount, but again, keep an eye on the software here as some won't upgrade to WearOS 3 and you might want to be able to upgrade in the future. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 already use the latest software, so that's the key watch to, erm, watch.
