New Google Pixel feature drop: Everything in the March 2022 update

Google regularly updates its family of Pixel smartphones with so-called feature drops. And the latest one for March 2022 has just arrived. It also happens to be Pixel's 10th feature drop to date, bringing new features to everything from Gboard to Google Duo. Here is a detailed look at everything new in the software update now rolling out to Pixel phones.

Which Pixels get the latest feature drop?

The latest feature drop is rolling out to Pixel 3a through Pixel 5a (5G) devices starting 7 March 2022, while Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices will receive an update later in the month.

What's new in this Pixel feature drop?

Night Sight

The Night Sight feature in the Pixel camera helps you capture clear low-light pictures and video. Now, Night Sight is coming directly to Snapchat, so you can snap low-light videos or photos without flash all within the Snapchat app. You can try it on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro by selecting the low-light mode in the Snapchat app.

Live caption

Now, when you're on a phone call, you can see captions of what the other person says and type back a response that will be read out loud to the caller.

Gboard stickers

When you're typing in messaging apps, Gboard can now convert your text (English only for now) into custom stickers with your words displayed.

Live translate

Live Translate's Interpreter mode on Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, when activated, can translate conversations in Spanish, Italian, and French right on your phone. Just say, "Hey Google, be my Spanish interpreter". Pixel 6 and 6 Pro can also now identify Spanish in videos and auto-translate it automatically into English, French, Italian, German, Japanese (beta), and Spanish.

At a Glance

The Pixel's At a Glance feature is getting new widgets that will display the battery levels of connected Bluetooth devices like wireless earbuds. Google said the feature will also elevate helpful info such as alarm reminders and even earthquake alerts when appropriate.

Is that it?

Nope. Pixel phones are getting the ability to share their screen with others during Google Duo video calls - similar to Apple's SharePlay feature in iOS 15. Finally, Google is adding new curated wallpapers celebrating Internation Women's Day from artist Manjit Thapp, while older Pixel phones (3a and up) are getting support for Direct My Call and Wait Time.
