Novelist Stephen King and his literary works have dominated mainstream television and cinema in recent years. Often known for his horror works, King's stories are thought-provoking, dark, and distinguished from others in the genre. In 2017, King's 1986 novel It saw a new live-action take separate from the made-for-TV film from the early 90s. Since then, the HBO series, It: Welcome to Derry, has expanded on the background and lore behind Pennywise and the town of Derry that the enigmatic creature inhabits. Just last year, Longlegs director Osgood Perkins brought us an adaptation of King's short-story The Monkey, and a new cinematic take on The Running Man was produced by director Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Shaun of the Dead). In 2024, director Mike Flanagan brought King's novella The Life of Chuck to life. The film is a departure from King's darker works. It's a fantasy drama that follows the life of Chuck Krantz (Tom Hiddleston) in reverse chronological order.
