Aha, finally got it. I have had these speakers from the US for a while now. INSIGNA USB speakers, and they would work just fine on any windows machine (Plug and Play). But when i pluged them to ubuntu, i would get no sound at all.To get sound all you have to do is to change the output Ubuntu uses from Internal Audio analog Stereo, to USB Audio DAC Analog stereo. Go to system settings > sounds > output.
That is it! Now your USB speakers work well on Ubuntu.
