While Plex has historically been known as a media server app, the service made a hard pivot into the world of FAST (free ad-supported TV) back in 2019, and has quickly become a leader in this space, now boasting a massive lineup of over 600 always-on live-streaming channels. Though competitors like The Roku Channel, Pluto TV and Tubi are perhaps better known in the FAST streaming world, Plex's sheer volume of channels (which is the largest of any other free app, easily beating out The Roku Channel which has 500+ channels) has made it an important part of the streaming media landscape.
