Movie Review : Leap Year by Annand Tucker starring Amy Adams, Mathew Goode, Adam Scott

Just watched LEAP Year, directed by Annand Tucker, starring Amy Adams, Mathew goode,Adam Scott.  and here is my review:

I watched this movie for the first time, on June 20 th, 2011. This movie is of type "Romance"

1) First impression : One of the best images of ireland's country side i have ever seen. I liked the movie but i found it quite a little too much predictable, and the few attempts to create surprise, are just not enough to turn  it into one big hell of a movie.

2) Long story short  :

Anna (Amy Addams) is a successful girl with a brilliant career. She  wants to settle and get married, current boyfriend Jeremy (Adam Scott) doesn't seem to be ready for commitment, Anna decides to give Jeremy a push into marriage, by  doing the proposal herself! To avoid looking ridiculous, she decides to do the marriage proposal, in Ireland, during one specific day of Leap Year, when a woman has the right to propose marriage to a men according to Irish tradition. Coincidentally Jeremy, Anna's boyfriend who is a cardiologist is having a business trip to Dublin (The capital city of Ireland). Unfortunately for Anna the plane that is flying her to Dublin is caught into a storm and is diverted to whales. Despite the storm Anna decides, she still is getting to Dublin by any means. She therefore rent a small boat, and attempt to get there by sea.

Her attempt is unsuccessful again, the little boat is caught in one big storm and has to change course, toward some lost countryside village of Ireland.  Where Anna will get to meet, Declan (Mathew Goode). Declan runs a small pub, and has some financial troubles, he agrees to drive Anna to Dublin in exchange for 600 Euros. Much "Difficulties" awaits, Anna and Declan during their trip to Dublin, but every obstacle they encounter is obviously driving them closer to each other, thus making them falling in love with each other.

When they finally reach Dublin, Jeremy surprises Anna by asking her to marry, she says yes, as Declan walks away, with a broken heart.

A few days after Jeremy and Anna are back to the United States. Anna then finds out that Jeremy only wanted to marry her to get an apartment they have been trying to purchase for a long time. Anna is shocked and decides life with Jeremy will never make her happy, due to the materialistic nature of their relationship.

Anna goes back to Ireland, for the happy ending with Declan. they get married and the movie ends.

3) Conclusion :

My note for this movie is 6/10. You should watch this at least once in your life, again for me the countryside of Ireland,  really give this romantic story an extra dimension. I believe that, you could take the same story and place it in the context of France, or Australia, with a very different, outcome.
